Hippy Dippy Oils

Updated: Dec 19, 2020

Go-To Essential Oils for the Office, Home and Travel.

You know that ahh-mazing feeling when you come home, liberate yourself from your restrictive clothing, go to your happy place, and take that first sip of your favorite wine? There is that particular exhale that comes right after.

Breathing in the right essential oil can provide a similar feeling of ease, and I've found them very helpful in the office, during travel, meditation and manifestation as well as for everyday family life.

If you are like me you probably have a few friends or family members who are distributors, and it can sound a little overwhelming and costly? Have you been tempted to just grab something off the shelf at your local market instead of making a regular investment in this lifestyle choice?

I was introduced during a family trip about five years ago when I walked into my cousin's hotel room, and it smelled like a spa.

I noticed this odd contraption on the night stand spewing out smoky mist, which seemed to be the epicenter for where the magic was happening.

After commenting on how AMAZING it smelled in her room, I then facetiously asked what kind of hippy shit did she have going on?!

We laughed, and I was skeptical of her first pass explanation of benefits. Over the next couple of days, she shared how oils had helped her feel calmer, and how amazing it had been to bring them into her home. I was intrigued, as I could relate to wanting something when I was having a moment. Something healthy, non-altering, and non-pharmaceutical. Can you relate? This was of course well before the CBD craze, when alternative options weren't so commonplace.

Before I knew it, I was holding out my wrist, and asking to give it a go.

That 'something' she introduced me to was Stress Away by Young Living. I was traveling a lot at the time and loved that it came in a roll-on bottle. It smells amazing, provides a no-mess application and takes the edge off softly.

Using this blend nurtured a spark in 'alternative options' that I was slowly adopting across many areas in my life. Since then, I've set up a monthly order with multiple household products that support daily wellness goals.

Today, I reach for my oil bottles daily for grounding, purifying, nesting, aches & pain, fevers, anxiety, focus, releasing, meditation, forgiveness, and hundreds of other reasons that come up in a busy, career, family, wellness, grounded, positive, healing focused, multi-tasking ninja lifestyle!

Here are some of my core go-to's for Office, Home and Travel.

1) Orange- This uplifting staple boosts creativity, immunity, relaxation, good vibes, and helps with headaches. I love it mixed with Thieves or Purification.

2) Peppermint- Oh how I love this oil! I burn through this one as fast as orange. This oil helps with attention, performance, focus, appetite suppression, and is great to mix with other oil combinations.

*Orange and Peppermint combined with Lavender is also a great combo for headaches.

If you do not have Orange Oil, breathing in an Orange peel works just as well.

3) Thieves- Absolutely love this oil, and the back story of Thieves is very interesting. Referencing my handy dandy 'Essential Oils Desk Reference', this superpower oil was created based on the legend of 15th-century thieves who managed to rob and plunder during the plague without getting sick. When caught the thieves revealed that they rubbed a certain mix of oils, herbs, and spices all over their bodies to prevent contracting the plague from the dead and dying.

Studies have proven the airborne killing power of this blend, noting after 10 minutes of diffusing, there were significant reductions of microorganisms in the air.

This blend smells amazing and is highly antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic and anti-infectious. It includes:

Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary.

I've even added in Thieves toothpaste (best ever), Mouthwash, and Cleaning products into my monthly mix. You'll never go back once you've tried Thieves products.

4) Purification- Is a must have and offers a Fresh, Sweet, Bright aroma that cleanses the air. It includes Citronella, Lavender, Lemongrass, Myrtle, Rosemary, and Tea Tree.

You'll want both Thieves and Purification on hand during cold and flu season!

5) Frankincense- This amazing oil has many spiritual, mental, and emotional benefits. Many use both Sacred Frankincense and Frankincense for mindfulness, centering, healing, and other wellness intentions. This is a staple to have in your cabinet.

6) Lavender: This is a cornerstone in my collection, and helps alleviate Stress, Pain, Allergies, Sore Muscles, and can also calm furry home office buddies.

7) Stress Away- Ending where I started, this fabulous workhorse, is ideal if you want to feel calm, relaxed and grounded. The blend includes: Cedarwood, Copaiba, Lavender, Lime, Ocotea, Vanilla.

I also like to create my own blend pictured above by adding Orange to Stress Away. I call it "OrangePeelAway". You can purchase a roll on bottle with crystals similar to mine on Amazon HERE.

On the Go-

As with anything, setting yourself up for success includes planning ahead and having what you need with you consistently. After major surgery this past Fall, a loved one made me a custom pain oil blend, which I carry with me always. It's in the same easy access pocket as my lipstick, mini-vitamin carrier, & pocket rocks (lately it's been Tiger Eye and Citrine).

Being able to quickly and easily apply pain oil no matter where I am, especially while in recovery has been a huge help.

The little tote pictured above is my traveler for weekend getaways, business trips, and vacations. (The spray bottle you see the top of is a Thieves spray, which is handy for those nasty hotel remotes).

There are a few noteworthy roll-on's, very convenient for everyday and travel like Breathe Again, and Deep Relief. I've shared both of these while on the road, much like my Cousin did with me. There is always someone who is struggling with allergies, lung and pain-related issues. Because of this, I ended up setting up a page where people could grab their own bottle vs. using my personal supply. You can view the costs of the roll-on options here under Additional Products.

For flights, I typically wear an oil necklace that was gifted to me by a thoughtful loved one. A few drops of Thieves and Orange is my jam.

There have been a number of flights where I've buried my nose into a freshly washed scarf and this necklace because of the nasty being re-cycled through the plane.

Bringing a little USB diffuser stick along, or simply dropping some oil on a cotton ball and placing in the air vent of your hotel room is an easy hack.

You can find a similar necklace on Amazon HERE, as well

as well as a USB diffuser stick HERE.

Buying quality oils is like buying organic or deciding not to eat fast food. You just decide you want quality products that are safe and invest in the lifestyle. Getting started doesn't have to be costly, and can be as simple as ordering one quality oil to try.

I have a few high-quality diffusers in heavily used areas like my office, living room, and master, but have opted for thriftier choices in other parts of the house. For example, I chose something similar to this option on Amazon for one of the kid's bedrooms: https://amzn.to/37jIleh.

I'm a huge fan of using them in my office (pictured left), and also discuss them in my blog, "Simple Wellness Habits for the Work From Home Professional" if you want to check it out.

After all of this I can assuredly say that I'm a little hippy when it comes to essential oils, and I'm not shy about sharing them when people around me are in pain or dealing with discomfort. I have been playfully teased by colleagues, but in the same breathe they are always thankful for the nurturing and positive gesture. Do you agree we could use more of that these days?

I'd love to hear from you on how you are using essential oils, and what works for you in the comments below.
