DIY Glass Gratitude Stones

Inside: Just in time for Valentine’s Day! Learn how to make Glass Gratitude Stones for a Friend or Loved One.

Do you ever have that overwhelming feeling that you just need to create something? Something messy, colorful, original, beautiful…just something, even if it’s small?

Last month I was daydreaming of paint on canvas, stained hands, the click of a camera lens, the smell of trees just after it has rained…my soul was calling, demanding artistic expression. Can you relate to this call?

I answered by diving into a few things that led outdoors and left my hands and fingers thoroughly stained. This included creating Colorful Glass Gratitude Stones to curb the creative hunger grumbling inside, as well as to support Wellness Goals of Gratitude and Creativity.

What are Gratitude Stones?

Gratitude Stones are used as a physical reminder to express daily thanks, and gratitude for the wonderful things in your life. The simple act of saying thank you out loud, in prayer, in meditation, and acknowledging your blessings can have a profound impact on your daily outlook and health.

Here are the two that I have on my desk everyday.

TO MAKE THIS DIY YOU WILL NEED:

· Alcohol Ink Set- The kit I ordered is on Amazon HERE.

· Alcohol Ink Silver & Gold- You can find HERE.

· Alcohol Blending Solution- I ordered on Amazon HERE.

· Glass Gems: Dollar Tree

· Polyurethane Crystal Clear Gloss: Local Hardware Store

· Nail Polish & Top Coat - On Hand

Optional Items:

Plastic Gloves- I ordered off Amazon HERE.

Magnets- Dollar Tree Craft Section

Hot Glue Gun or Super Glue- On Hand

STEPS TO MAKE GLASS GRATITUDE STONES:

  1. Set up a ventilated work area. Open a window, turn on a fan, or work outside.

  2. Protect your table's surface.

  3. Empty your bag of clear glass stones, flip them over, and wipe the flat side with a paper towel & alcohol. It doesn’t take much.

  4. Drop Alcohol Ink onto the flat side of the glass stone. I used 1-3 colors depending on what look I was trying for.

  5. You can use Alcohol Blending Solution to lighten, blend or remove the Alcohol Ink.

  6. After 15- 30 seconds, dab the stone gently to pick up the excess liquid and create the look you want. I used a sponge on a stick, and a small piece of paper towel to blend the colors and create dimension.

  7. Set the stones aside to dry for a day or two.

  8. Apply a few coats of Polyurethane outside. Space out the applications, and leave outside to cure. Make sure to bring them indoors (garage, shed) overnight so they do not collect moisture.

  9. *Optional* After the stones had sat for a day, I decided to experiment by using a little fingernail polish to give a few of the stones more depth or glitter. Just add a little top coat to seal, and let them fully dry. The result was pretty awesome.

  10. Let them sit overnight, and use water or a little rubbing alcohol to clean up the stones and clean off any runaway ink.

I think these turned out so beautiful! My only regret is that my table light showed up in the pictures!

You can gift these as-is, glue on a magnet for a refrigerator, locker or home organization center. I also created a few pendants, as well as beautiful sun catchers with these beauties, which I'll post about in a future blog.

Thank you for reading. I hope this DIY inspires your creativity and contributes to your daily wellness goals!
